Research tells us that our children’s readiness for school depends on their healthy physical and mental development. Toolkit for Integrating Healthy Physical and Mental Development in Early Learning Guidelines (ELGs) was developed with this in mind!

The National Resource Center (NRC) for Health and Safety in Child Care and Early Education created this Toolkit to help state/territorial teams evaluate and supplement their ELG content related to children’s healthy physical and mental development. Teams can also use the toolkit in education for teachers and families.

Toolkit is available in the following versions:

            Online Version
             PDF Version
             Word Version

The Toolkit is based on the nationally recognized Caring for Our Children: National Health and Safety Performance Standards: Guidelines for Out-of-Home Child Care, 2nd Edition (CFOC).

What are ELGs?

How You and Your Team Can Use the Toolkit
  • To increase content in state/territory Early Learning Guidelines (ELGs) to support children’s healthy physical and mental development.

  • To enrich ELG training for early educators and child care staff.

  • To develop family friendly materials using nationally recognized health and safety resources.

  • Examples of each use
