The following is a list of frequently asked questions
regarding our Web site. Frequent updates are made to browsing software by the
manufacturer. Although every attempt was made by us to accommodate a wide variety
of software versions it is highly recommended that you update your browsing
software to the latest version. Update information can be found in the "Help"
menu of your browser. If there is a question you feel should be added to, or
is not answered in, this list please feel free to e-mail
or call us at 1-800-598-5437.
If you are looking for a specific topic we encourage you to use the "Search"
feature at the top-left of the page. If you are still having difficulty finding
the resource you require, or if you have any other child care related questions,
please do not hesitate to e-mail us at natl.child.res.ctr@uchsc.edu
or call 1-800-598-KIDS (5437) and we will assist you in your

Printing Problems
Why is part of the page cut off?
We developed this Web site to use default browser margins (.75 inches). If the
page is cut off then most likely your margins are larger than this.
To change your margins in Microsoft Internet Explorer follow these steps:
Click on the "File" menu
Select "Page Setup..."
Change the left and right margins to "0.75" and click "OK"
To do this in Netscape follow these steps:
Click on the "File" menu
Select "Page setup..."
Click on the "Margins & Header/Footer" tab
Change the left and right margins to "0.5" and click "OK"
Is there a way to print your Web site without the blue menu at the left?
No. We realize the navigational menu bar is quite large but necessary to maintain
navigational simplicity. If you would like to print any of our Web pages we
recommend you turn off your background color printing option to save toner or
ink, this will eliminate the colored portion of the navigation menu.
To do this in Microsoft Internet Explorer follow these steps:
Click on the "Tools" menu
Select "Internet Options..."
Click on the "Advanced" tab
Scroll down the list until you see "Printing"
Uncheck "Print background colors and images"
To do this in Netscape follow these steps:
Click on the "File" menu
Select "Page setup..."
Uncheck "Print Background (colors & images)"
Problems Viewing a Web Page
When I click on a link it changes color but nothing happens
You may have pop-up blocking software installed/enabled. Many of our resources open in new windows for easy reference. Try holding down the control button while clicking on the link. If this doesn't work consult your browser's documentation to find out how to allow pop-ups from user specified sites.
Adobe/PDF Questions
Why do you use PDF's??
Due to the complexity and considerable size of our publications we needed a
tool that would allow us to publish information to the Web efficiently. Portable
Document Format (PDF) is currently the best way to accomplish this. You may
download a free Adobe Acrobat PDF reader at the following link.
With the document open in Acrobat Reader follow these steps:
Click on the "File" menu
Select "Print"
Click on "Properties"
Next to the "Pages per sheet" option select "2" and click "OK"(Please note: there
is no need to change the page orientation to landscape for this)
Acrobat Reader has an extensive, built-in, help function. If you cannot
find the answer to your question in the "Help" menu please visit http://www.adobe.com
for more information.
Display Problems
Why is your Web page off center?
With the complex HTML structure of our Web site it is inevitable that random errors in the way pages are loaded will occur. If this should happen simply press the "Refresh" button at the top of your browser.
Why is your Web page so large/small?
In order to provide a common interface for a wide range of users it was necessary to program our Web site around the default screen resolution of 800 x 600 pixels. If you cannot see the entire width of the page on the screen we recommend you adjust your display setting using the following steps:
Minimize all of your open windows by clicking on the dashed box at the top right of your screen
Right-click anywhere on your desktop
Select "Properties" from the menu that appears
Click on the "Settings" tab
Move the "Screen Area" slider to the right until 800 x 600 is displayed
Click on "Apply"
A window will pop-up, click on "OK"
Your screen area will change. If you are satisfied with these settings click "Yes" on the window that appears. If your screen goes blank or is undecipherable wait fifteen seconds and it will automatically return to its original resolution.
Click on "OK" and return to viewing our site
If you are uncomfortable changing these settings or feel that there is a different problem involved contact your network administrator or Internet service provider.
